Couple, Marriage and Family Counselling

Relationships can be energizing, stressful and evoke so many emotions at the same time. When there are times of distress it can be helpful to have a professional therapist to listen to different perspectives, help identify themes, patterns and language that underlie the problem and offer different alternatives to consider towards achieving a healthier and harmonious balance. I believe that when working within a system there is vast potential to raise awareness regarding possible paths forward and then collaboratively implement new ways of understanding the problem and strategies towards desired outcomes. At the heart of our work I utilize the inherent wisdom, skills, knowledge and stories of each individual and inter-connected relationships towards strengthening understanding, intimacy, and connection.

Individual Counselling

The stories of our everyday lives and how they come together within one’s unique lived experience is an amazing part of being human. The collection of events and the processes we go through internally to ultimately make sense of what is happening in our lives and continue to move towards our desired state of mental and physical well-being is no easy feat. Regardless of the challenge that you are experiencing we will take continuous and meaningful steps to overcome the obstacles you feel are holding you back and reinforce the parts of you that speak to your strengths and resilience. Additionally, within sessions we can invite other voices into the dialogue that will allow us to move you from feeling isolated in your challenges to recognizing the inter-connectedness we have to the world around us and how we can utilize this to our advantage.

Teen (Age 12 to 17) Counselling

It can be a challenging time growing up these days and trying to figure out who you are while navigating the regular stressors of adolescence, increasing mixed messages in society and in a time of global uncertainty and change. This can have a significant impact on mental and physical health. Taking a step back from this to reflect on who you want to be within an environment of acceptance, curiosity and support, with the goal of empowerment and a sense that anything is possible can be a very helpful process. From learning specific skills, managing thoughts, emotions and behaviors, identified as needing attention, to expanding stories that shine a bright light on your unique abilities. We will work together to find what is meaningful and supportive of your mental and physical well-being now and into the future.

As a therapist, I can offer:

  • Grief and Loss
  • Peer Relationships
  • Technology and Relationships
  • Self-Identity and Self-Esteem
  • Life/Developmental Transitions

Sports Performance Counselling

When we are engaging in the world of sports, individually or as part of a team, its applications to how we live our lives go far beyond the commonly identified physical benefits we get. Sports, or even general physical activity, provides us an arena to master personal skills that we can employ in our day to day lives. There are times when the pressure and expectations of being involved in an organized sport, or engaging in exercise for improved health, can be challenging to our mental health. This is where we have an opportunity to use this experience to learn new skills and knowledge to improve both sports performance and apply this to our life outside of sport to excel. With my background in sports along with my deep passion for its benefits in our lives we can use these experiences to thrive throughout the lifespan.

As a therapist, I can offer:

  • Manage Stress, Anxiety and Pressure to Achieve
  • Leveraging Emotions to your Advantage
  • Psychological Skills Training using Acceptance-Based Behavioral Therapy
  • Sports Identity, Role vs. Identity, and Role in life
  • Achieving Balance in and outside of Sport
  • Body Awareness and Injury Recovery
  • Managing the Mental and Physical Perspective
  • Applying the Psychology of Sport to Daily Life
