Are my sessions with you covered by insurance?

Please check your policy with your insurance provider with my credentials (CCC #1274, RMFT#20171276 and ACTA #1284)

Do you do in-person and/or online therapy sessions?

I do both, with session hours available both in person and online. In-person sessions are at Kula Holistic Services, located at 1219 14 Avenue SW Calgary, AB, and online sessions through ‘Nous Talk’ platform that is specifically designed for delivering mental health therapy sessions. With the latter delivery service, I would initiate the registration process for you and then it would be completed on your end. The informed consent for therapy and details, if you would like to note it on this platform, of what you are seeking therapy for can be done here as well.

What would you recommend my mental health provider have for qualifications and ongoing training to best meet my needs?

The most commonly used titles providing mental health services in Alberta are ‘Psychologist’, ‘Social Worker’, ‘Therapist’ and ‘Counsellor’. Only Psychologist and Social Worker are protected titles under the provincial Health Professions Act meaning that no one can use these titles unless you belong to the respective colleges that govern them. At this time anyone in the province can call themselves a therapist or counsellor regardless of education, training and experience, as they are not protected titles. I would highly recommend that for any mental service provider you consider have a minimum of a Master’s (graduate) degree, psychologists will always have this, in counselling or a clinical specialization. This should be from an accredited university and are attached to a governing body whether it be at a provincial or national level. In relation to ongoing training, I believe this is essential for any mental health service provider as the therapy world is always advancing with new ways to help individuals, couples and families. There are also many trainings that support mental health providers with current therapy models to support effective services being delivered. Your service provider should at your request provide proof of education and ongoing training.

How do I learn about the different therapies you offer?

You could learn more about them by searching on the internet. However, I would recommend that during our 15 minute consultation we can discuss them at this time. Please come with your questions.

What happens if my education, training or experience is not a fit for what you are seeking?

During an initial consultation, we would determine this. If I feel that I would not be able to provide you with the best service possible, I will support you in finding another provider that will be able to.

What is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist (RMFT) and what are the benefits?

To be an RMFT is a specific area of training that is most often a minimum of three years of education and practical work under the supervision of a RMFT-Supervisor. This occurs at a Master’s (graduate) level or is done as a post master’s degree program to augment the skills attained in the initial master’s degree. An RMFT receives training where the focus is systemic-relational in nature with a focus on the system around an individual and not just them exclusively. This type of approach honors the fact we live in a relational world where we are inter-connected with others as a means of achieving desired mental and physical health.
