Performance – It’s not just in Sports

When one enters the arena of their chosen sport to compete, they perform before, during, and after the event. Specifically, an individual and/or team will begin to prepare in anticipation of the event mentally and physically, during the event mental and physical skills and knowledge are center stage and once the event ends, there is a natural winding down of the mental and physical aspects that have been put on display. Now, let’s reframe this not using the word ‘event’ instead replacing it with ‘process’ as this better defines performance, not just any way of performing, but to perform at an optimal level for success. How success may be defined will be different for every individual and/or relationship. Regardless of if it is within the sports arena or in your daily lives, we perform every second of our lives, even in our sleep, so keeping an eye on the process is essential! The feeling of success is reached by paying attention and appreciating all the steps that brought you to this moment. If success is seen or interpreted as a single event, we may often find ourselves unsatisfied or disappointed. It’s about the effort given and success we experience in the journey to a desired outcome where value and fulfillment are found.
