“I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring”
David Bowie
Living in a relational world David Bowie’s words are intriguing to consider. By relational I mean that we are in relation to someone and/or something at all times. The quality of relationships will naturally have its ebbs and flows where there are times of joy and energy and, at the other end of the spectrum, perhaps times of despair and sadness along with infinite number of experiences in between these. While we may desire predictability in the relationships we have in our lives we can all probably agree that this is not always possible. This often requires us to be flexible to various environments we are in on a continual basis so that we can maintain the relationships that matter to us most. So in honoring David Bowie’s promise that it will not be boring think about what you bring for your unique path forward. What strengths do you possess that will anchor you as you forge ahead? How can these identified strengths cultivate growth in your life and impact those around you?
- To begin watch ‘The Science of Character’ that will explain the importance of strengths and the science behind this. The Science of Character – YouTube
- Next, take the ‘VIA Character Strengths Survey’ (15 minutes to complete) to identify your areas of strength keeping in mind the results are all strengths you possess on a continuum. Personality Test, Personality Assessment: VIA Survey | VIA Institute (viacharacter.org)
If you would like to discuss your strengths more and how you can harness these for growth in all areas of life please contact me for a session. I completed a Diploma in Positive Psychology, with the Langley Institute in Australia, as part of my passion and commitment in working with individuals, couples, families and groups in a manner that recognizes their innate strengths, wisdom and acquired knowledge towards a fulfilling and flourishing life.
